According to market news, Argentine judge Marcelo Giorgi has ordered the freezing of assets related to the scandal of President Milei-backed Meme Coin LIBRA, imposing an indefinite "injunction" on the property and financial assets of Hayden Davis and two cryptocurrency operators (Orlando Mellino of Argentina and Favio Rodriguez of Colombia). The two operators' cryptocurrency wallets have suspicious activities and are currently under judicial review.
Federal prosecutor Eduardo Taino applied for the measure, which was supported by a technical report issued by the Department of Financial Investigation and Illicit Asset Recovery, and recommended that the three be prosecuted. The judge found that the case met the requirements of reasonable doubt and risk of delay, and granted the asset preservation request. Investors lost about $100 million to $120 million as a result of the incident.
The judge stressed that the injunction was valid only for as long as strictly necessary, and ordered the National Securities Commission to be notified of the extension of the asset freeze to all relevant platforms in Argentina. In addition, prosecutors found that 42 minutes after Milei tweeted a selfie with Davis, Davis transferred $507,500 through Bitget, which may have constituted indirect bribery.
