According to crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett, former U.S. Senate candidate John E Deaton has announced that he will run in next year's midterm elections, challenging incumbent Senator Ed Markey for the seat.
Markey, 79, has served in Congress for more than 50 years, first as a congressman and then as a junior senator from Massachusetts.
Deaton, a pro-cryptocurrency lawyer who ran against Senator Elizabeth Warren in 2024 but lost by about 19 percent, said this time the contest with Makke would be different.
Markki is considered an opponent of cryptocurrencies and has voted against the GENIUS Act and other pro-cryptocurrency proposals in Congress.
