A New York jury has failed to reach a verdict in the case of Anton Peraire-Bueno and James Peraire-Bueno, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) -educated brothers charged with fraud and money laundering in connection with the 2023 Ethereum blockchain breach that led to the theft of $25 million in digital assets.
According to reports, U.S. District Judge Jessica Clarke ruled on Friday that the case ended in a mistrial because jurors could not agree on whether the brothers should be convicted or innocent.
The decision stems from a three-week trial in federal court in Manhattan, in which the prosecution and defense argued sharply against the Pereira-Bueno brothers' alleged use of the maximum extractable value (MEV) robot.
