YouTube recently said it would expand its ban on online gambling content, effective November 17, to ban sites that direct viewers to "additional items of monetary value", including video skins, appearance props and non-fungible token NFTs.
The announcement caused an uproar in the cryptocurrency community, with creators fearing it would lead to a blanket ban on crypto-related content, particularly crypto games. However, a YouTube spokesperson confirmed to Decrypt that this was not the case.
The Google-owned company said: "Content that shows video skins or appearance items that creators have acquired in-game, as well as general discussion of items of real-world monetary value such as NFTs, will not be affected by this update."
YouTube clarifies that the new policy, which will take effect on November 17, will not completely ban cryptocurrency content
