Ripio launches Argentine peso stablecoin wARS to promote cross-border transfers

On November 3rd, Latin American crypto exchange Ripio announced the launch of wARS, a stablecoin pegged to the Argentine peso. Based on Ethereum, Coinbase's Base and World Chain networks, wARS allows users to transfer money globally without going through banks or exchanging dollars. The launch comes as the Argentine government has reduced inflation from 292% in April last year to 31.8% currently. Ripio plans to launch stablecoins pegged to other Latin American currencies in the future, further facilitating cross-border transfers of local currencies in the region. Stablecoins have become an important store of value in high-inflation countries such as Argentina and Brazil. The launch of wARS continues Ripio's previous move to tokenize sovereign bonds, with the aim of promoting wider blockchain adoption by integrating real-world assets such as fiat currencies and securities through blockchain.
