European Union Expands Regulation of Stock and Cryptocurrency Exchanges

The European Union Commission is devising plans to expand central regulation of critical financial marekt infrastructure, targeting bourse and crypto asset service providers.
Under the plan, the powers of the European Securities and Markets Authority (Esma) will be expanded to cover the "most important cross-border entities". The move is part of the European Union's "capital markets union" initiative, which aims to eliminate regulatory fragmentation and boost the European Union's competitiveness. The proposals are expected to be presented in December as part of the "market integration programme".
