Elon Musk, the tech entrepreneur and billionaire, is launching a standalone messaging app called X Chat, aimed at competing with Telegram and WhatsApp, which is expected to go live in the coming months.
"On X, we just rebuilt the whole messaging system and called it X Chat," Mr. Musk said on Friday's episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.
He said he hoped the new messaging app would be released "within a few months", stressing that it would not have any "ad hooks", noting that rivals such as WhatsApp "know what you're messaging and can push you ads accordingly".
"But it's actually a huge security bugs because if it knows enough to display ads, it means it has a lot of private data," he added. "Hackers can also use these'hooks' to read private messages."
Mr. Musk plans to launch an encrypted communications app, X Chat, which he says is encrypted "like Bitcoin"
