Bank Indonesia governor Perry Warjiyo announced at the Indonesia Digital Financial Economy Festival and Fintech Summit 2025 in Jakarta that the central bank plans to issue digital central bank securities, tokenised versions of government bonds that will be based on the country's central bank digital currency. "We will issue BBI securities in digital form - a digital shield backed by government bonds, which is the national version of a stablecoin," Warjiyo said. The move is seen as an important step in integrating blockchain technology into Indonesia's monetary system.
