The Federal Reserve is expected to end its three-year phase of quantitative tightening this week, easing pressure on banks. Some bank lenders tapped the Federal Reserve Reserve Financing Facility earlier this month to levels seen during the epidemic. The Fed has allowed more than $2 trillion of Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities to roll off its balance sheet since it began its quantitative tightening programme in June 2022. Krishna Guha, vice-president of Evercore ISI, said there was a general consensus that the Fed would end quantitative tightening this month. Clarida, a former Fed vice-chair, noted that even without a formal resolution, there would be a strong signal that the Fed would end quantitative tightening in December.
