Zuckerberg appoints former head of meta-universe business to advance AI strategy

Mark Zuckerberg has appointed his longtime deputy Vishal Shah to a key role in the artificial intelligence team at Meta Platforms (META. O), according to the Financial Times, the latest in a series of executive tweaks as he pushes ahead with its AI strategy. The shake-up comes on the heels of the rushed launch of Vibes, its AI video service - which was quickly overtaken by Sora, OpenAI's rival, despite Zuckerberg's expensive recruitment of AI talent in the past few months. Shah joined Meta a a decade ago, initially in charge of the Instagram product business, before moving to lead the creation of the company's "Meta Universe" virtual online world in 2021. According to an internal memo, MetaAI product lead Nat Friedman announced that Shah will join his team to lead product management, and Shah will report to Friedman.
