Threads, a Twitter rival owned by Meta Platforms (META. O), is launching a limited-time posting feature to encourage more users to share "whatever they want" on the platform without fear that the content will remain in their personal pages forever. The feature, called "ghost posts", will appear in the feed at the same time as other regular posts, but will disappear after 24 hours, in a pattern similar to the popular "snapshot" feature found in Meta's Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp apps. A user's response to a ghost post will be sent as a direct message rather than a public comment. In a blog announcement on Monday, the company said the new feature was designed to encourage people to "share free ideas and fresh perspectives without the pressure of content retention or fine-tuning."
