On October 26th, Michael Repetny, CEO of Marinade Labs, said that the Solana ecosystem is preparing for an upgrade by the end of this year or early 2026. In the future, plans are made to lower the entry threshold for validators after the Alpenglow upgrade, while increasing bandwidth and reducing latency. Currently running a Solana validator costs about $5,000 per month, of which $4,000 (80%) is used to pay for voting. The Alpenglow upgrade will slash these voting fees significantly, making it affordable for more participants to operate validator nodes.
