On October 25th, according to politico, Ches McDowell, a North Carolina lobbyist and hunting partner of Donald Trump Jr., Trump's eldest son, is becoming one of the most profitable lobbyists in Washington. His company, Checkmate Government Relations, has generated $7.10 million in revenue in the past three months alone, and the company just opened an office in Washington this year.
According to the disclosure report, Binance hired McDowell in late September to lobby the White House and the Treasury Department on financial policy issues and "administrative relief" matters. Binance paid Checkmate $450,000 for his work over the past month.
However, CZ's move to seek amnesty is far more than a month old. Back in February, three weeks after Trump was sworn in as US president, Binance and CZ themselves hired Teresa Goody Guillén, a well-known cryptocurrency lawyer. Trump had considered appointing her as chairperson of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). Her law firm reports that she has received a total of $290,000 in fees from Binance and CZ so far this year.
McDowell and Goody Guillén did not respond to requests for comment.
