On October 23rd, according to the Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration recently lifted a restriction allowing Ukraine to use certain long-range missiles provided by Western allies, which would enhance Ukraine's ability to strike targets in Russia. U.S. officials said on Wednesday that the move was aimed at increasing pressure on Russia. The Ukrainian military on Tuesday used a British-provided "Storm Shadow" cruise missile to strike an explosives and rocket fuel production plant in Bryansk, Russia. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced that the strike "successfully penetrated Russian air defenses." Ukraine did not change the battlefield situation after using the "Storm Shadow" missiles, which have a much lower range than the American "Tomahawk" missiles, the former has a range of more than 180 miles (about 290 kilometers), and the latter has a range of more than 1,000 miles (about 1,600 kilometers). International oil and gold prices rose after US officials said they expected Ukraine to conduct more cross-border attacks using the Storm Shadow missile.
