Zach Burks, chief executive of Mintable, recently commented that Andrew Bailey, governor of the Bank of England, was "playing politics" by making "needlessly inflammatory" remarks about stablecoins.
In an interview, Mr. Burks said stablecoins did not pose a risk to the global financial system, noting that almost all stablecoins had a "blacklist function" that froze funds stolen by hackers, and that most were operated by listed companies or regulated institutions and were "inherently subject to relevant laws".
In Burks' view, Bailey and the Bank of England deliberately attacked stablecoins because "stablecoins threaten the viability of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), which are a central part of Labour's digital identity agenda."
He added that this "panic-mongering is intended to influence the initial perception of blockchain technology by those who are not familiar with it."
