Solana Mobile has announced that it will stop providing software and security updates for its blockchain phone, the Saga, marking the end of the device's life cycle after just two years of release. Compatibility with new systems or services is no longer guaranteed, and users will face security risks and application failures, officials said. Launched in May 2023, the Saga was originally intended to promote the popularity of Web3 and was developed by California hardware company OSOM in partnership with Solana Mobile. Although initially priced at $1,000, it was later reduced to $599, but sales were only about 20,000 units, falling short of expectations. The machine was once popular because the pre-installed wallet received a Meme coin airdrop, and now the unopened device is still being speculated on the secondary market for three times the original price. Solana Mobile has now developed the next generation of encrypted mobile phone "Solana Seeker", which was released on August 4.
