Cboe Global Markets, operator of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), is seeking to extend options trading hours, pushing the US market further towards "overnight trading". According to the filing, the company is proposing to increase trading hours outside the regular trading hours (9:30am-4pm New York time). If approved, the CBOE will add an early session from 7:30am to 9:25am and an after-hours session from 4:00pm to 4:15pm. The CBOE is one of the first derivatives exchanges to propose such adjustments as the US bourse operator attempts to extend trading hours to match overseas demand, marking a move towards expanding trading hours in line with equities. According to the filing, the CBOE intends to extend trading hours for only some stock option categories, depending on volume, market capitalisation and active level. The extension is limited to specific contracts and will be piloted in a small scale before and after regular trading.
