Ethereum core developer Federico Carrone recently warned that the growing influence of venture capital firm Paradigm on the Ethereum network could become a latent risk to the ecosystem. Carrone said on social media that while Paradigm creates value for the community, its goals as a profit and impact-driven VC fund may not be consistent with Ethereum's philosophy and political philosophy.
Paradigm is gradually expanding its presence in the ecosystem by hiring key Ethereum researchers and funding open-source libraries critical to Ethereum. The company recently partnered with financial tech giant Stripe to incubate a competing Layer-1 blockchain called Tempo, a stablecoin and payments-centric network that is substantially controlled by Stripe, in contrast to the decentralized and open-source nature of Ethereum.
