According to crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett, New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo (@andrewcuomo) plans to make New York a cryptocurrency hub. The former New York governor-turned-mayoral candidate plans to announce that if elected, he will create a "Chief Innovation Officer" (CIO), dedicated to making New York City the "global center of the future."
The Chief Innovation Officer will coordinate initiatives across New York City government entities in blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and biotech, attract jobs and investment, and modernize New York City in the application and convergence of new technologies.
It is reported that Cuomo's plan also includes the formation of an "Innovation Council" composed of three advisory groups responsible for the fields of cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence and biotechnology. The committee will provide professional advice on the application of technology in these emerging industries, the development of the workforce, and the simplification of administrative procedures (reducing red tape).
