Laos' deputy energy minister told Reuters that the country is considering stopping power to cryptocurrency mining farms by Quarter 1 in 2026, a move aimed at reallocating domestic power resources to industries that contribute more to economic growth.
In 2021, Laos introduced a policy adjustment to promote the rapid expansion of cryptocurrency mining activities, and cryptocurrency operators have flocked to the landlocked country of South East Asia, attracted by cheap non-fossil energy.
