On October 16th, the OpenTensor Foundation tweeted that Bittensor has restored the subnet registration and cancellation mechanism, with a limit of 128 subnets. The new subnet will replace the lowest performance subnet and receive a 4-month immunization period. This update incentivizes subnet teams to prove their value or free up space, improving competition and project quality.
TAOs of deactivated subnets will be distributed proportionally to alpha holders, which will unlock TAOs stranded in the inactive liquidity pool and redirect them to more active areas of the network. New subnet registrations will incur destruction costs instead of lock-in costs, which are currently 2,500 TAO.
