Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to stop buying oil from Russia, US President Donald Trump said on October 16, in a sign that issues at the heart of the diplomatic and trade differences between Washington and New Delhi could be resolved. Mr. Trump said Mr. Modi had made the pledge to him in an undisclosed conversation on Wednesday. "I'm not happy about India buying Russian oil, and he assured me today that they will not buy oil from Russia again," Mr. Trump told reporters at the White House. "It's an important move." Mr. Trump added that India could not stop the purchases "right away", adding that "it will take a process, but it will be over soon."
