Meta Platforms (META. O) is building a new gigawatt-scale data center in the U.S. state of Texas to advance its artificial intelligence efforts, the latest in a series of major investments by the company looking to keep pace in the highly competitive artificial intelligence industry. The company said Wednesday it will spend more than $1.50 billion on the new facility being built in El Paso, Texas. The data center will eventually have a 1 gigawatt capacity to power high-end computing chips for artificial intelligence-related projects, according to reports. That is expected to come online in 2028, a company spokesperson said.
