OpenAI plans to invest $25 billion in Argentina to build Latin America's first "Stargate" project

OpenAI and energy company Sur Energy have signed a letter of intent to build a data centre hub in Argentina for up to $25 billion, in what will be one of the largest technology infrastructure projects in the country's history. "Stargate Argentina is an exciting new infrastructure project that will be launched in partnership with SurEnergy, one of Argentina's leading energy companies," said Altman, OpenAI chief executive. He called the project "one of the largest energy technology and infrastructure initiatives in Argentina's history". Stargate Argentina will build a large facility capable of hosting next-generation artificial intelligence computing with 500 trillion watts of energy capacity.
