Larry Fink, BlackRock's chief executive, told CBS in an interview that he had had to take a fresh look at bitcoin, acknowledging that "cryptocurrencies have the same role as gold and are an alternative asset". Fink noted that bitcoin "is not a bad asset, but it should not be a large part of the portfolio". In a letter to investors this year, Fink revealed that "half of the investment demand for BlackRock's bitcoin ETF is from retail investors, 75% of whom have never purchased an iShares product before".
