U.S. stocks closed: stock indexes rose and fell, XPeng Motors fell more than 6%

U.S. stocks closed Wednesday, with the Dow initially closing up 170 points, or 0.4 percent, while the S & P 500 edged lower and the Nasdaq fell 0.18 percent. Tesla (TSLA. O) closed down 1.7 percent and Shopify (SHOP. N) fell more than 18 percent. The Nasdaq China Jinlong index closed down 0.7 percent, led by Wei Xiaoli and XPeng Motors (XPEV. N) fell 6.3 percent.
