Ministry of Transport: Urges the US to immediately correct its wrong practices and stop its unreasonable suppression of China's maritime industry

On October 10, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport said in response to a reporter's question on the proposed special port fee for US ships that in April 2025, the Office of the US Trade Representative announced the final measures of the 301 investigation in China's maritime, logistics and shipbuilding fields. From October 14, additional port service fees will be charged to ships owned or operated by Chinese companies, ships built in China, and ships of Chinese nationality. The US approach ignores the facts, fully exposes its unilateralist and protectionist nature, and has obvious discriminatory colors. It seriously harms the legitimate interests of China's maritime industry, seriously disrupts the stability of the global supply chain, and seriously undermines the international economic and trade order. China will resolutely take countermeasures against the wrong practices of the US in accordance with the law, promote the construction of a fair and just international maritime market order, and maintain the security and stability of the international logistics supply chain. According to the "Regulations of the People's Republic of China on International Maritime Transport", our Ministry issued the "Announcement on the Collection of Ship Special Port Charges on US Ships" and decided to charge special port charges on US-related ships from October 14th. This is our legitimate measure to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese maritime enterprises. We urge the US to immediately correct its wrong practices and stop its unreasonable suppression of China's maritime industry.
