In a statement on Wednesday, the European Union Commission asked social media platform X to provide information under the Digital Services Act, the European Union's groundbreaking tech law that requires online platforms to take a stricter approach to policing illegal and harmful content on their platforms.
The Commission said it was concerned about X's Transparency Report to regulators in March 2024, which showed it had cut its team of content moderators by almost 20 per cent compared with the number reported in its Transparency Report in early October 2023. The Commission again cited X's Transparency Report, which said it had reduced coverage of languages within the European Union from 11 to seven.
