The US Senate voted 51-47 to appoint Jonathan McKernan, Trump's nominee, as Treasury undersecretary for domestic financial affairs. McKernan, a former Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) official, has long been a critic of over-regulation and the "debanking" of crypto. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called him an "ideal leader" and said McKernan would play a key role in reducing excessive government intervention and reviving the US economy. McKernan said he would promote reforms that would benefit growth both inside and outside the financial system, and focus on financial marekt innovation and crypto integration.
