Cryptocurrency-friendly US Senator Cynthia Lummis has confirmed that funding for the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) can now be "started at any time", despite legislative red tape hindering it. In an X post on Monday, Lummis said that while the legislative front remains "difficult", thanks to "President Trump, funding for SBR can be started at any time".
It was not immediately clear how the SBR would be financed. According to the government's official fact sheet, the reserve would initially be "capitalized on bitcoins held by the Treasury," which were seized through civil or criminal proceedings. It then noted that additional BTC could be obtained through budget-neutral pathways that "would not incur incremental costs to U.S. taxpayers."
