Neuralink, Mr. Musk's brain-computer interface company, has submitted a scientific paper to an academic journal presenting the results of a trial of some patients in what will be its first peer-reviewed paper with human data. Michael Lawton, chief executive and dean of the Barrow Neurology Institute, one of Neuralink's clinical trial sites, said the paper, which was submitted to the New England Journal of Medicine, involved the first three patients to be implanted with the Neuralink device and included safety data. Neuralink is one of several companies developing brain-computer interfaces, technologies that allow the brain to communicate directly with electronic devices. It has raised more than $1 billion and was valued at $9 billion in its most recent funding round, but has yet to publish a peer-reviewed study with human data. External scientists can use these results to independently evaluate the actual effectiveness of their equipment.
