According to Cointelegraph, the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is about to revoke a 2019 ban on cryptocurrency exchange-traded notes (ETNs) for retail investors.
According to a notice dated August 1, UK regulators will lift the ban on retail investors buying cryptocurrency ETNs from Wednesday, provided they are traded on "FCA-approved UK investment exchanges". Unlike exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which remain banned in the UK, ETNs represent debt securities tied to cryptocurrencies and are not backed by any underlying assets.
With the lifting of the ban looming, companies doing business in the UK have been weighing the impact of regulatory changes on retail investors.
