The US government shutdown continues, and the Nuclear Security Administration only has enough funds to support it for about 8 days

Chris Wright, the US energy secretary, said the energy department's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) would only have enough money to keep it fully operational for about eight days, after which it would have to go through "emergency shutdown procedures". If the funds ran out, the NNSA would retain only a small number of personnel to ensure the safety of nuclear weapons, but that would seriously disrupt the overall operation, Wright said. Previously, the NNSA was responsible for key tasks such as maintaining nuclear arsenals, nuclear non-proliferation and the Navy's nuclear power system, involving 65,000 employees and contractors.
