OpenAI completes stock deal at record $500 billion valuation

OpenAI has completed a deal that allows current and former employees to sell shares worth about $6.60 billion at a company valuation of $500 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter. The secondary deal values the ChatGPT developer as the world's most valuable start-up, overtaking Elon Musk's SpaceX, after valuing OpenAI at $300 billion in a $40 billion funding round led by SoftBank Group. As part of the deal, OpenAI employees sold shares to a group of investors that included Thrive Capital, SoftBank, Dragoneer Investment Group, MGX of Abu Dhabi and T. Rowe Price, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the information was not public.
