Representative Begich and Senator Cynthia Loomis, Republican of Wyoming, co-sponsored the National Act to Promote Innovation, Technology and Competitiveness by Optimizing Investments (the "Bitcoin Act") last year. If passed, the bill would establish bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset - building on President Donald Trump's executive order to create a permanent bitcoin reserve similar to the nation's gold reserve.
The bill outlines a plan to acquire one million bitcoins over five years using a "budget-neutral strategy". It extends Mr. Trump's executive order that prohibits the sale of bitcoins and other crypto assets confiscated to the US government through criminal or civil litigation and held in separate "reserves".
