Since its launch in January, Coinbase's bitcoin-backed loan business has topped $1 billion. The business, in partnership with on-chain protocol Morpho, allows U.S. users to apply for cash loans against their bitcoin holdings.
The average loan size is $54,000, according to platform data. To meet the needs of high-net-worth customers, Coinbase plans to raise the limit for a single borrower from $1 million to $5 million in the coming weeks. The main loan uses include debt consolidation, medical expenses, real estate investments, etc., reflecting the accelerated integration of cryptocurrencies as collateral assets into the traditional financial system.
