Caroline Pham, acting chair of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), announced at a joint roundtable on September 29 that the "turf war" with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the field of cryptocurrency regulation is over. She stressed that the two agencies will work to establish a harmonized regulatory framework and reduce market friction.
Paul Atkins, SEC chairperson, also dismissed rumours of a merger, saying the focus would be on policy co-ordination rather than restructuring. The meeting, which brought together Kraken, Robinhood and several traditional Financial Institutions Groups, comes as the Clarity Act moves forward, which is expected to give the CFTC broader oversight of digital assets.
