Brazil considers foreign cryptocurrency exchanges to purchase cryptocurrencies as imports

Brazil's decision to treat cryptocurrency purchases from foreign cryptocurrency exchanges as imports broke the country's record and added some weight to Brazil's trade balance. In the past 12 months, cryptocurrency purchases reached $14.84 billion, compared to $12.30 billion last year. Similarly, Quarter 1 cryptocurrency imports reached $4.69 billion in 2024, an increase of 118% compared to Quarter 1 in 2023.
