The dollar fell against a basket of currencies as U.S. lawmakers averted a government shutdown. The White House will meet later on September 30 and the Senate is expected to re-vote on whether Congress will continue to fund the government beyond October 1. Aaron Hill, analyst at FPMarkets, said investors were cautious about the looming U.S. government shutdown, which will overshadow important economic data releases and "damage the Fed's policy signals". Meanwhile, concerns about the Fed's independence have been heightened by Trump threatening to "fire" Powell with cartoon images on social media. (Kim Ten)
