Jump Crypto Proposes Removing Solana Block Computing Cap

Jump Crypto's Firedancer team recommends removing the CU cap on Solana blocks after the Alpenglow upgrade, allowing block capacity to scale with validating node performance. High-performance nodes can process more transactions and earn more money, while low-performance nodes use the skip-vote mechanism to automatically skip large blocks. Alpenglow will also reduce the block final confirmation time from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds, and improve network resilience and data optimization. Wattenhofer, head of research at Anza, Solana development company, supports this idea, but cautions that there may be centralization and network stability risks.
