Gary Gensler, chairperson of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), discussed topics such as cryptocurrencies in an interview with CNBC on Tuesday. Gensler said, "We regulate the $110 trillion capital markets. About half of that is the stock market. Half is the bond market and other markets, and cryptocurrencies are just a small part of our overall market. But that's a huge part of the scams, frauds and problems in our markets because much of that space doesn't meet the protections of our securities laws.
Gensler also stressed that cryptocurrency investors are not properly disclosed as they should be, and that our compensation is performance neutral. Investors can make decisions as long as they have complete, fair, complete and truthful information. They don't get that in cryptocurrencies. Gensler reiterated that if they are a crypto security, then it is required.
