Apple has developed a iPhone app similar to ChatGPT to help test and prepare for next year's much-anticipated major Siri upgrade, according to people familiar with the matter. Apple's artificial intelligence division is using the app to quickly evaluate new features for the Siri voice assistant, including testing its ability to search for personal data such as songs and emails, as well as perform in-app actions such as editing photos, people familiar with the matter said. The software, code-named "Veritas," which means "truth" in Latin, is for internal use only, at least for now. Apple has no current plans to release the app to consumers. Essentially, the app will present the new Siri technology, which is still in development, in a form that employees can test more efficiently. After many delays, the new Siri will debut as early as next March. If the software works as promised, it could help Apple make a comeback in artificial intelligence. If it underperforms, the company could fall further behind smartphone rivals like Alphabet's Google and Samsung Electronics.
