Yesterday, bitcoin investors were excited by the news of the so-called "Dutch legislator plans to authorize the establishment of a strategic bitcoin reserve (SBR) ". Unfortunately, the post on the X platform (formerly Twitter) quickly received a Community Note, which poured cold water on the excitement.
"They didn't set it up. It's just a proposal," one comment noted, noting that the speaker in the video was not representative of the Dutch legislature. Another added: "It's an old video. And everyone voted against it."
Various posts about this non-existent news spread rapidly on the internet. Complaints about fake news proved to be completely accurate. In fact, the man talking about this old proposal was Thierry Baudet, a spokesman for the "Democratic Forum" opposition party, which holds only 3 of the party's 150 seats in the Dutch House of Representatives.
