OpenAI CEO: 'Super intelligence' could emerge by the end of this decade

According to Politico, Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, said in an interview with the media that "superintelligence" could emerge by the end of the century. Asked when there will be superintelligence that is smarter than humans in all respects, Altman said: "I expect the trajectory of artificial intelligence capacity enhancement to remain extremely steep. In a few years, AI will probably be able to make some scientific discoveries that humans cannot do alone. For me, that will start to feel like it can be properly called superintelligence. It is difficult to predict exactly which year or month it will appear. But I would definitely say that by the end of the decade, by 2030, I would be very surprised if we don't have models that are extremely powerful and capable of doing things that we cannot do ourselves."
