Citibank released a new report, raising the global stablecoin issuance forecast in 2030 to $1.90 trillion under the baseline scenario and up to $4 trillion under the bull market scenario. The report states that stablecoins can support up to $200 trillion in annual trading volume.
However, the report predicts that trading volumes of bank tokens (such as tokenized deposits) could eventually surpass stablecoins due to corporate demand for regulatory safeguards, with transaction volumes expected to exceed $100 trillion by 2030. Citi believes that stablecoins, bank tokens, and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) will coexist to reshape the financial infrastructure.
