According to NBC News, two Department of Justice officials and a person familiar with the matter said Wednesday that the Department of Justice is weighing whether to indict James Comey, the former FBI director, on charges of lying to Congress. The internal discussion comes after Trump posted on social media over the weekend urging Attorney General Pam Bundy to take action against Comey and two other political opponents. The allegations involve Comey answering questions from Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, about a leak authorization during congressional testimony on Sept. 30, 2020. If the Justice Department decides to indict Comey, it could happen in the next few days. The five-year statute of limitations on the charges expires early next week.
