On September 25, according to two administration officials and another person familiar with the matter, U.S. and Japanese officials are making arrangements for Trump to visit Japan next month. The visit could be the first meeting between the successor of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Trump. Officials cautioned that any White House itinerary is not officially confirmed until it is officially announced, and plans could change. Trump has previously confirmed that he will travel to Asia, and is expected to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea, from October 31 to November 1. The possible trip to Japan is expected to precede the trip to South Korea, officials said. In addition, the Malaysian Prime Minister had earlier said that Trump would also attend the Association of South East Asia Nations (ASEAN) meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from October 26 to 28.
