According to CCTV Finance, Nvidia plans to invest $100 billion in OpenAI, and the two sides will jointly build a data center with a scale of at least 10 gigawatts. According to people familiar with the matter, Nvidia will invest in OpenAI by acquiring non-voting shares, and OpenAI can use the funds to buy Nvidia chips.
Andrew Kitson, director of the technology industry at BMI, a subsidiary of Fitch Solutions, said that Nvidia's $100 billion is not just an investment, but also a leverage, making Nvidia both a hardware supplier to OpenAI and a source of future financing for OpenAI. OpenAI has been struggling to transform into a fully profitable organization, and the cooperation with Nvidia provides long-term financial security for its future. In addition, OpenAI and Oracle signed a cloud computing cooperation agreement to buy huge computing power from Oracle, and Oracle, as an infrastructure provider, needs to purchase graphics processing unit (GPU) hardware from Nvidia to build data centers.
Analysts believe that the three companies will therefore form a new cooperation model: OpenAI buys Cloud as a Service from Oracle, Oracle buys graphics processing units (GPUs) from NVIDIA, and NVIDIA continues to invest in OpenAI. Experts from several technology industry consulting service companies pointed out that although this cooperation forms a "chip-infrastructure-model" closed loop in the AI supply chain, it will not change the general trend of diversified development of the computing power market.
