Wildberries, one of the largest online marketplaces in Eastern Europe, is piloting cryptocurrency payments in Belarus with Whitebird, a fintech company operating in the Belarusian Hi-Tech Park, which oversees digital economy innovation projects in the country.
The pilot project was authorized by the Belarusian Hi-Tech Park, a government-backed framework. Instead of allowing users to pay cryptocurrencies directly to merchants, Wildberries adopted a blend mode: users can exchange popular cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and TON for electronic gift certificates through the Whitebird platform. Gift certificates are issued in Belarusian Rubles (BYN) and can be redeemed on the Wildberries website and mobile app.
According to the company statement, the service is currently in the testing phase, only open to some users, support desktop and mobile end access.
