A Catholic church accountant in South Korea pocketed hundreds of millions of won in donations to invest in cryptocurrencies and confessed his criminal behavior to a priest. Police have launched an investigation.
The Jeonnam-Mokpo Police Department said on the 24th that it had applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A, who is in his 60s, on suspicion of duty- related embezzlement. Mr. A is suspected of misappropriating donations totaling about 480 million won several times from July last year to last month. Mr. A, who is in charge of financial management, pretended to settle the funds raised for the church building normally, but transferred the money to the account of his real-world friends.
According to the investigation, Mr. A invested these funds in cryptocurrencies, only to lose all his money.
